DSC Dredge and Deep Diggers Ltd have announced the launch of a new 18 inch Shark Class dredge made in Bangladesh.
In 2019, US cutter suction dredger manufacturer DSC Dredge signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Deep Diggers Ltd, Bangladesh, to provide engineering design and set of components. Deep Diggers imported all dredge components from DSC including Caterpillar diesel engine, dredge pump, gearbox, cutter assembly, winches, hydraulics, lever room and controls. . All steel fabrication, including the hull, side pontoons, ladder and crampons, was built by Deep Diggers at its factory in Chattogram, Bangladesh. Deep Diggers installed all components supplied by DSC, including complete hydraulic and electrical systems. After a year of construction, two 18 inch Shark Class dredges were launched. DSC provided 30-day on-site product support to help commission the two new dredges and provide training for crews in operations and maintenance.
DSC Dredge International Dredge Sales Manager Charles Sinunu commented, “Deep Diggers President Gauhar Siraj Jamil and his managers had the wisdom and confidence that they could produce quality dredges with the support of DSC. I expected some challenges with the first build, but everything went very well. We have proven the concept to ourselves and to the local market. We look forward to a very long relationship with Deep Diggers.
The 18 inch Shark SH-10300-200-56D has the advantage of digging up to 17 m (56 ft) below the surface, which is deeper than most dredgers in Bangladesh. Bangladesh-built dredges will use the same advanced components as US-built DSC dredges, including variable displacement load sensing and variable displacement closed loop systems. They are powered by a single Caterpillar C32 diesel engine rated at 1125 hp and have a 200 hp cutting drive.
With the DSC hydraulic system and fuel efficient Caterpillar engine, this dredge will have a very low operating cost, DSC said.
One of the Directors of Deep Diggers, Omar Sharif (Tuhin), said, “We are delighted to partner with America’s premier dredge maker, DSC Dredge. I have known Charlie Sinunu for over 15 years and we have always hoped to find a project together. Now, as the manager of Deep Diggers and the local representative of DSC, we can build and maintain all DSC dredges nationwide. We are factory trained and pride ourselves on providing 24/7/365 service to all DSC customers in Bangladesh. We are looking forward to building many more dredges in the future with DSC. ”
DSC Dredge President and CEO Bob Wetta commented, “I am extremely proud of the finished product, with all the COVID setbacks in 2020, the Deep Diggers manufacturing team has remained diligent in bringing the finished product to life. this dredge. We look forward to the future and what it holds for our collaboration.
